Mariner West

Project Mariner West, a joint project between Sunoco Logistics and MarkWest Liberty Midstream & Resources, LLC, a partnership between MarkWest Energy Partners, L.P. (NYSE:  MWE) and The Energy & Minerals Group, is a pipeline project to deliver Marcellus Shale ethane from the liquid-rich Marcellus processing and fractionation areas near Houston, Pennsylvania to Marysville, Michigan and the international border near Marysville, Michigan.  Mariner West, which is being developed at the request of Marcellus producer customers and is supported by Sarnia ethane consumers, will utilize new and existing pipelines and is anticipated to have an initial capacity to transport up to 50,000 barrels per day of ethane.  The project can be scaled to support higher volumes as needed.

The project will involve the construction of a 40-mile pipeline from MarkWest Liberty's Houston fractionation complex to an interconnection with an existing Sunoco Logistics pipeline near Vanport, Pennsylvania. The ethane will then be transported from Vanport to Marysville and the international border utilizing existing Sunoco Logistics pipelines, which will be modified for ethane service.  All pipelines involved will be common-carrier pipelines, with open access capabilities at the Houston origin facilities.

Combined with Mariner East, a previously announced Sunoco Logistics/MarkWest Liberty pipeline and marine project developed to transport ethane produced in the Marcellus to the US Gulf Coast, the projects provide Marcellus producers with a comprehensive ethane takeaway solution for the Marcellus Shale basin.
