Close Interval Surveys

A Close Interval Survey is a process for identifying possible corrosion problems in pipelines.

Sunoco Pipeline L.P.’s pipelines are cathodically protected (CP) to help prevent corrosion on its pipelines. CP systems are equipped with permanent test stations where electronic leads are attached to the pipeline for testing and measuring the pipe to soil potential to ensure adequate corrosion protection. The CP systems are inspected and tested at regular intervals utilizing the permanent test stations in order to ensure the CP systems are operating properly. In addition, Close Interval Surveys are conducted to assess the CP effectiveness over the entire length of the pipeline.
