Product Releases

In spite of all precautions and safety programs, releases do occasionally occur. If this happens in your neighborhood, it is imperative that you understand that a pipeline release could mean danger.

RECOGNIZING A RELEASE

LOOK FOR

LISTEN FOR

  • Hissing, blowing or roaring sounds.

SMELL FOR

  • A strange odor - petroleum products have unusual odors which should be easily detected.

Do not TOUCH or TASTE anything surrounding the suspected release.

DO'S AND DON'TS OF RELEASES

A pipeline release can be dangerous and immediate, but cautious, action is necessary if you suspect a release.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO

  • Turn on any equipment, machinery, electric lights.
  • Do not use a telephone, especially a cellular phone near the release.
  • Operate an automobile near the release.
  • Ignore the release.
  • Close any valves without direction.
  • Attempt to operate any pipeline-related equipment.
